Here’s the actual sitation in a long-form tl;dr:
David Karp and crew sell Tumblr to Yahoo, resign after. Yahoo, bleeding money and run by a Chinese eCommerce company interested solely in profits, begin whoring the site out for everything it can garner.
Later, Apple threatens to ban Tumblr from the App Store because “it got da bewbies and lewds” This scares the shit out of Tumblr’s board because no Apple = No monies. They proceed to, rather than work with Apple to come to a common goal in order to protect Tumblr’s more niche but rich and varied communities, hand over the keys to Apple and say “What do you need me to do baby. The site is yours.”
Tumblr bans nsfw anything and goes all stuff-your-christian-dad-wouldn’t-scoff-at.
What burns me on this is that Tumblr’s main demographic of people finding themselves is interwoven into its NSFW communities. It’s like an ignorant gardener loving the shape and crown of a large tree but hating the roots popping up out of the ground, so they take a shovel to rip the roots apart.
So yeah, thanks for nothing Tumblr. Rather than preach honesty in what’s going on, you gaslight the shit out of people with PR in an attempt to frame the situation into one that appeals better to yourselves. Fuck you.
